big printer
Remember how last time I talked about a tiny printer? Yeah… this one is quite the opposite. A beast. Uhm, paperreka may or may have not acquired more printing stuff. Meet Morris. He is also a C&P (Chandler and Price) from Cleveland, Ohio (represent!) but older and bigger than Amelie. It only makes sense that he is a boy, don’t you think? While we are at it… I am also sharing a few photo-filtered gorgeous wood and metal type, type drawer, and “other stuff” (aka what I will be sorting through over the cold winter months) photos. Please enjoy the … Continue reading
little printer
The digital world is taking over. People read less books and newspapers printed on paper and get their fixes online, on ipads and kindles. I get it, I am guilty of it myself. But tell me this little printer is not the cutest thing you have ever seen. Wasteful? Perhaps. Will it revive the newspaper industry? Probably not. Stay spicy my friends.
big deal
So to me—this is my first big job, and it’s a big deal. Not only I got to work with a super sweet small biz owner (I have a soft spot the aforementioned) and came up with a concept of a series of self promos, but I designed the layout, sent the files off for plate making and got to produce 400 of these puppies (no puppies were harmed during this production). Well, here is the first batch of wedding related self promos, 2-color (silver and blue) on each side. I will try to photograph these coasters in better lighting, … Continue reading
fruits of labor
With all the craziness of the past few months; getting Amelie adjusted in her new home (my letterpress baby not human baby), getting clients to believe that letterpressing their products adds an incredible tactile factor, I feel lucky to have family, friends and colleagues who help me and want me to succeed (you know who you are). So without getting all sappy, please enjoy the fruits of my (our) labor and check out my holiday shop at papernstich’s newest exhibit (I am also featured in their home sweet home section with my coasters!) shop via etsy, if that’s easier for … Continue reading
sneak peek
The lovely and wonderful Nathan Peel photographed few of my products—ok let’s face it, tons of my products—for the upcoming holiday season. Michelle from Blue Dahlia styled it to perfection, and well, here is a sneak peek.

a reflection on Typeface
As I dive into more and more type and printing related matters in the paperreka shop, I could not miss the opportunity to attend the film screening of Typeface at the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center. What a great film documenting the Hamilton Wood Type Museum. The Midwestern museum and print shop is located in Wisconsin and is working to bring old craftsmen and young designers together to preserve the historic significance of typography. Such a perfect topic for me right now! I did find the movie to be a bit pessimistic about the future of the museum, wood type and … Continue reading
painting
Amelie is looking good with her first coat of paint on, don’t you think?
progress
So this weekend Amelie had to be taken almost completely apart to even begin to try to lift her off the truck that brought her home. Excited to let the painting process begin.
l e t t e r p r e s s love
Talk about inspiration, it just keeps coming my way! As many of you know I have a not-so-secret obsession with anything letterpress…the process, the goods, the machinery…you name it! I visited Igloo press in Columbus recently for a tour and ventured over to Indianapolis a few Saturdays ago to look at presses for sale…while totally tempted by the presses there, I used some self-restraint and committed myself to more researching. Little did I know that it would become a family affair, with everyone I know youtube-ing letterpressing videos and looking for machines to buy! Having a mechanically savvy father-in- law … Continue reading
spicing up paperreka
Flavors, smells, textures, color. What better inspiration for my stationery than spices?! Spices embody so many of the qualities I put into my designs—character, excitement, embellishment, pizazz, individuality, flair… How fascinating to see how these tiny little herbs can find their way into my world of paper and design. It all started with one special, vibrant, Hungarian spice—paprika. It was the perfect word to capture my heritage and passion for character, and conveniently played right in to my name and passion for paper. Helloooooo paperreka! I already had paprika built into my name, so why not take it further? There … Continue reading
